Washington State Capital, Olympia. Architects Wilder and White completed the magnificent structure in 1928 (some sources say 1929). The columns and ornamental carvings on the front and dome are local sandstone from Mount Rainier. All the stone carving was done on site. The masonry dome is one of the highest in the world – sometimes noted as the 4th highest self-supporting masonry dome in the world. The stone steps in the front are now above a secure parking area, and had to be removed for renovations. Each step was carefully cataloged and was returned to its exact position. The view from inside the dome is also worth seeing. Here is another outside view of the dome:
